Designer | Concept Artist | Illustrator
I’ve been drawing since I can remember. I taught myself by reading comic books. During the same time I discovered Lego building blocks, which became my first experience with creating something in the third dimension. After seeing Star Wars for the first time at the age of ten, I began creating unique buildings, characters and vehicles to place in surreal environments. This ignited a passion that would lead me to fine art, which i developed during my high school years.
I was honored to have been voted most artistic in high school, which lead me to develop an architectural, illustration and fine art portfolio, which solidified my acceptance into the architecture program at Pratt Institute in New York. I was extremely fortunate to be surrounded by world renown architects and professors that allowed me to push the envelope of theoretical design. After graduating with a BA in Architecture, I moved back to South Florida to pursue a career developing my skills as a designer, concept artist and illustrator.
I have been fortunate enough to meet, work and build relationships along the way that has lead me to creating Dave Chernin Design. Thank you for visiting my personal website.
I first met Dave Chernin when he was a student at Pratt. Later he worked for us in New York before returning to Florida. Over the last 25 years we have stayed in touch, and I have followed his career with interest. Dave has matured into a talented and experienced design professional. He has led the design on a wide variety of challenging projects. He has proven design + illustration skills.
Bradford Perkins, FAIA
I have found Dave to be personable, reliable, hard working, detail-oriented, and professional in his approach to projects and clients. One of his best talents is his ability to conceptualize, visualize and effectively communicate ideas through rapid hand-sketches. This capability has proven to be extremely helpful in both project-related design charettes and marketing efforts. Weekends & evenings are not in Dave's vocabulary when a deadline approaches.
Ian Nestler, AIA
I have worked with Dave for over 20 years on a number of projects. His work ethic and commitment to detail are exceptional. His leadership skills and ability are extraordinary. I returned to the office after my initial meeting with Dave and remarked that I had met a true professional who was knowledgeable, informed, and extremely well qualified. A truly remarkable talent, leader and professional.
Built Work + Conceptual Design
My family was involved in Real Estate Development. During my senior year in high school I started learning architectural design and began working on site plan layouts for several of our projects. That early experience lead me in creating a love for architecture. Combining that with my passion for art, allowed me to pursue a dream of having an architectural education at Pratt Institute. I have been producing unique design solutions and presentation graphics for the AEC industry ever since, helping Architects + Real Estate Developers worlwide.
I have extensive knowledge with architectural design + presentations. I start with conceptual hand sketches that ultimately become a projects assets such as site plans, floor plans, elevations and 3d perspectives.
My work has translated into built form in these markets :
Commercial • Corporate • Civic • Education • Government • Healthcare • Science • Residential • Retail + Mixed Use • Worship
My experience includes :

Construction Administration • 3D Models • Design Presentations • Marketing Assets
Combining Design + Illustration
Concept art is a form of illustration used to convey a new and unique idea. A concept artist is an individual who generates a visual design for an item, character, vehicle, environment or area that does not exist.
My traditional drawing and painting skills enable me to develop one of a kind designs that incorporate my diverse knowledge in color theory, human anatomy and animal drawing. That combined with my architectural degree allow me to demonstrate artistic range and flexibility. I am adaptable to multiple styles, techniques and genres.
Environments • Creatures • Characters • Vehicles • Matte Painting
Rendered Drawings + Images
I have been developing creative visual solutions for over three decades. I loved drawing as a child. That lead me to discover the human anatomy through reading comic books. It was there that my passion grew into painting and other mediums. Although I use the computer for many types of illustrations, my favorite way to create a drawing is through freehand sketching. See the section “Sketchbook” below to view samples of my work.
I have a diversified skill set with traditional methods and various software programs that allow me to complete my work.
Mediums include :
Colored Markers • Colored Pencils • Watercolor • Auto Cad • Photoshop • Sketch Up • Painter X
3D Exterior Renderings • 3D Interior Renderings • 3D Aerial Renderings • 3D Floor Plans • Colored Site Plans • Colored Elevations
Developing Ideas + Concepts
All of my ideas start out as hand drawings in my sketchbook. It allows me to develop an idea quickly without limitations,
to feel the idea in order to translate it onto paper for further investigation.
Once a thought is transferred onto paper it can then be developed into several different assets for
Concept Art, Illustration, Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design and Fine Art.
Mediums include :
Acrylic • Air Brush • Chalk • Colored Pencils • Markers • Oil • Pastels • Pencil • Pen + Ink
Graphic Design • Ad Design • Page Layouts • Fine Art • Wall Murals • Presentations • Concept Art • Web Design
